What: Preppy Style
Look: Classy, simple, put-together, crisp
Who Wears It: Lots of private high schoolers and college students, including Ivy Leaguers. You can look like you graduated from Princeton or Yale! Yay you! (If you are the appropriate age. This does not apply to fifth graders.)
Inspiration: School uniforms, sporty clothing worn for tennis, golf, and horseback riding
Patterns: plaid, stripes, polka dots,
Accessories: pearls, watches, scarves, belts, tote bags,
Color Palette: black, white, navy, a ton of beige, tan, and khaki with splashes of bubblegum pink, green, neon yellow, and red as accents to keep it fun
Staples: blazer, sweaters, cardigans, trench coats, button-down shirts, polo shirts, chinos, khakis, A-line dresses & skirts, pleats,
Shoe Staples: oxfords, loafers, boat shoes, ballerina flats, Wellington boots
Warning! Do not assume preppy style is all serious and tucked in...or boring, just because it is a perfect look for a school day. You can look preppy and fun at the same time! Mix it up! Wear classy clothes...but in a bright, colorful print or fun color. Pair a crisp button-down shirt with casual shorts! You can still dress preppy and mix in elements to suit your look: casual and relaxed, or sporty, or fun and bold. Just keep in mind the basics.
